There are several types of pallet trucks, and each one is designed for a particular load, environment, or handling task. The main categories include hand pallet trucks, electric pallet trucks, weighing scale pallet trucks, high-lift pallet trucks, and stainless steel pallet trucks.

A power pallet truck is a motorized material handling machine used to lift pallets slightly above the floor and transport them within warehouses, factories, distribution centers, supermarkets, and loading areas. It is also commonly called an electric pallet truck, powered pallet jack, or electric pallet jack.
